Guided by its core values and based on the philosophy of the IB, Al-Hayat International School (HIS) places great value on the ethical qualities of honesty and academic integrity. Academic integrity is expected of all members of the school community; students, faculty, administration and parents. HIS teams believe that academic integrity is part of being principled, a learner profile attribute where learners strive to “act with integrity and honesty” as we question, inquire and act. HIS also encourages students to inquire and think critically and creatively; students are asked to be reflective and give shape to their thinking through oral discussions or presentations, visual representations and displays, as well as multiple forms of writing.
A safe and encouraging learning environment supports academically honest behaviors and helps instill the values and principles behind them. HIS core values and the attributes of the learner profile are essential to the nurturing of such an environment. The academic integrity policy informs HIS community of expected behaviors regarding academic honesty, approaches of citation and referencing, and consequences of policy breech.
